Aim High, Aim for the Middle, or Aim Low
When we have large numbers of residents, I struggle with the choice of directing the lessons to those who are very interested and engaged (let's say - roughly 33%), those who are actively / passively not engaged (approx 33%), and those who are partially & / or intermittently engaged (approx 33%).
If I 'aim high', I know that some will have a very stimulating and even optimal learning experience, but many will feel left out.
If I 'aim low' I may be able to stimulate some of the less engaged, but at the cost of some of the 'higher engaged / higher functioning' learners,
and if I am at the middle I risk missing the highs and lows.
Especially when topics (i.e. Behavioural Medicine) fall a bit outside pre-conceived notions of 'medicine' - what are others' decision-making tips about to whom we should aim our lesson plans?
